The new size, and why old photos fail
Passport Seva now follows the ICAO standard used for passports worldwide: a 35 × 45 mm portrait photo, which digitally is 630 × 810 pixels. A photo made for the older square format has the wrong shape and a face too small in the frame, and the portal’s automatic check turns it down.
The guideline also asks for natural skin tones, even lighting with no shadows or flash reflections, eyes open, mouth closed, and the photo taken from about 1.5 meters away rather than as a close selfie.
