TikTok video size and limits

The short answer
Upload TikTok videos at 1080 × 1920 pixels (9:16). The widely used file limits are 287.6 MB from an iPhone and 72 MB from Android; uploading from a computer allows much larger files.

Why a TikTok upload fails
Usually the file is over the limit for the device you’re uploading from — Android’s is the lowest — or the video is in a format the app can’t read. An MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, 1080 × 1920, under 72 MB, uploads from anything. TikTok doesn’t publish all of its limits in one place; the figures here are the ones in wide use, and uploading from a computer at tiktok.com is the way round a phone’s limit.
Questions
What size should a TikTok video be?
1080 × 1920 pixels, 9:16 vertical. Larger videos are scaled down by TikTok anyway.
How do I post a horizontal video on TikTok?
Reframe it to 9:16 first: the whole picture over a blurred background with Video to Shorts, or cropped to fill the screen with Crop Video.
How do I make a TikTok video smaller?
Compress it to under 72 MB with Compress Video; at 1080 × 1920 that still leaves plenty of quality for a few minutes of video.
