How to use it

  1. 01

    Add your files

Drop one or more videos onto the box. The soundtrack is found as soon as each file is read.

  2. 02

    Check the settings

Pick the audio format. MP3 at 192 kbps suits nearly everything; choose WAV or FLAC if you are going to edit it.

  3. 03

    Save the result

Press extract and save the audio. The video itself is left untouched on your disk.

Why it doesn’t upload

Uploading a whole video to keep only its sound wastes time and data, and hands over the footage too. The audio track is read and saved right here, and the file never leaves your device.

How to check for yourself

Worth knowing

  • Only the first audio track is saved. Videos with several languages or commentary tracks keep the default one.
  • Choosing M4A for a video whose sound is already AAC re-encodes it; the difference can’t be heard at 192 kbps.
  • Screen recordings made without a microphone have no audio track at all. You’ll be told as soon as you add one.
  • AVI, WMV, FLV and other older formats use the FFmpeg engine, a one-time 31 MB download.

Questions

How do I turn an MP4 video into an MP3?

Drop the MP4 here with MP3 selected and press Extract audio. The soundtrack is saved as an MP3 at 192 kbps, which sounds the same as the original. There is also an MP4 to MP3 page.

Does extracting audio reduce its quality?

Video soundtracks are almost always already compressed, usually as AAC. Saving to MP3 or M4A at 192 kbps or more is indistinguishable. Choose WAV or FLAC if you need zero further loss for editing.

Can I save only part of the soundtrack?

Yes. Open Advanced and enter a start and end time in seconds. Leave both at 0 to keep the whole soundtrack.

Can I extract audio from several videos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; each soundtrack is saved as its own file, and you can download them together as a ZIP.
