The short answer

WhatsApp stickers must be exactly 512 × 512 pixels, in WebP format, with a transparent background: up to 100 KB each for static stickers and 500 KB for animated ones. A pack needs 3 to 30 stickers and a 96 × 96 tray icon under 50 KB.

Making a sticker that passes

Start with a picture on a plain background and make the background transparent with Remove Background. Resize it so the longest side fits 512 pixels, placed on a 512 × 512 transparent canvas, and save it as WebP — the image converter keeps the transparency. WhatsApp’s own guidelines suggest an 8-pixel white outline around the sticker so it stays visible on dark chat backgrounds.

Questions

Can WhatsApp stickers be PNG?

Not in a sticker pack: WhatsApp requires WebP. Sticker apps convert PNG for you, and the image converter turns a PNG into WebP with its transparency kept.

Why is my sticker rejected?

Usually it isn’t exactly 512 × 512, it’s over 100 KB (500 KB animated), or it isn’t WebP. Check all three before adding it to a pack.

How many stickers can a pack have?

Between 3 and 30.
